Bulgaria ranked 15th in Europe in terms of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2004, Ernst & Young

Bulgaria attracted 2.2 per cent of FDI in Europe in 2004, outpacing Italy, Turkey, Greece, Austria and Portugal. The survey showed that Europe had retained its lead in the world in attracting FDI despite strong competition from the US and China. The car industry and IT were the most dynamic sectors in Europe in 2004, attracting 11.6 per cent and 10.9 per cent of FDI respectively. The European Attractiveness Survey is based on the responses of 513 European, American and Asian corporate executive respondents.
